Who We Are
Warming Center Support volunteers are part of an on-call response team that helps provide a safe, welcoming environment for individuals experiencing homelessness during periods of extreme or inclement weather. These volunteers partner with 5Cities Homeless Coalition staff to ensure the Warming Center can open quickly when conditions become unsafe outdoors.
This role is grounded in reliability, calm presence, and teamwork, and is essential to meeting urgent community needs when the Warming Center is activated
What We Do
Warming Center Support volunteers serve in an on-call capacity and may be contacted when weather conditions trigger Warming Center activation. Responsibilities may include:
-
Supporting the opening, monitoring, and closing of the Warming Center during activation periods
-
Welcoming guests and helping maintain a calm, respectful environment
-
Assisting with basic setup, supplies, and light facility needs
-
Supporting staff with safety protocols, guest flow, and general oversight
Warming Center shifts are not scheduled in advance and are activated as needed based on weather. Volunteers receive training and guidance ahead of time and always serve alongside staff
